Welcome to The Stick Farm. You may be a stranger, or maybe you are already here (one of the People I Have Knewn). But come on in, sit a spell, or better yet, wash my dishes or muck out the barn. I love to stand around and talk human nature while someone else does the grunt work.About Deadpan, MaineWe are located in Deadpan, Maine, 30 miles from everywhere and smack dab in the middle of nowhere, as the natives like to say. Not much here except trees, mostly slash, and junk, mostly vehicles, and mostly scattered around the yards, and people, mostly parochial and narrow-minded, but kind and neighborly, too, if you catch 'em on the day the welfare checks come in.No, but seriously, it's a great little town, with a gazebo and library and elementary school and everything modern civilization has to offer, including running water! We have a stream right here on The Stick Farm; we're only the 15th house in line to use the water. Sure, sometimes we find the odd carrot peel in our spaghetti water, or maybe some suds from one of our upstream neighbors' laundry efforts, but it's still running water. And we're grateful. It could be worse. |
